(ĐN)- Coffee in Dong Nai has more than doubled in price over the past year, hitting VND47,500 – VND48,000 per kilo, the highest level for 10 years. The price of coffee in the province was up from VND 3,500 to VND 4,000 per kilo as compared to early March. These prices guaranteed great profit for coffee growers, but the number of households in Dong Nai province having coffee beans for sale is not much. Most of coffee growers in the province have sold out their products after harvesting to pay for fertilizers, pesticides and labor costs as well as invest in the next crop.
During the first six months of the 2010-11 crop, Vietnam’s coffee export reached 719,000 tonnes worth $1.425 billion, rising 17 percent in quantity and 63 percent in value against the same period in the previous crop, General Statistical Office (GSO) reported.
