The center will be a multi-function complex for research and development, training, technology transfer, and production of bio-products for use in the areas of agriculture, medicine, pharmaceutics and environment
The centre is built in two phases. Its infrastructure such as roads, telecommunications, electricity supply, administrative areas and dormitories is being constructed in 2010 – 2015 period for the application of biotechnology in creating plant and animal varieties. From 2015 – 2020, state-of-the-art facilities for biotech research and application in agriculture, food, medicine and environment will be built.
The centre will work with local and international organisations to develop human resources as well as biotechnology research and exchange in the province.
In addition, in an effort to save money, the centre plans to co-operate with other biotech centres to prevent duplication of similar work or research.
It plans to create linkages among various hi-tech zones from universities and institutes in and outside the province and other countries.

The complex covers some 2,187 hectares with five functional areas – one for husbandry, one for cultivation, one for food processing, one for hi-tech agriculture and one for trading. It has a total investment of VND1.96 trillion and is expected to be operational in five years.
In the first phase, the zone is expected to be put into operation in 2013 and its investment in this phase will amount to VND1.4 trillion. Work on the second phase is scheduled to start in 2014.
This is the country’s first modern complex to be built with a self-contained production chain meeting international standards that will contribute to raising agricultural products’ quality and value.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai said the complex will serve as one of the venues through which farm produce from Dong Nai and its adjacent provinces can penetrate the world market, thus helping to promote the trademarks of hi-tech agricultural products.
