The figure has surged 7.58% from last December and 9.66% compared to the same period last year, making this year’s revised target of containing CPI at 8% almost impossible.
The strongest increase is seen in educational services with 3.9%, followed by food and restaurant services with 1.32% and housing and construction materials with 1.04%. Drinks and tobacco, commodities and other services, and household utensils and appliances see a slight rise of below 1% while the post and telecommunications is the only one to fall by 0.07%.
The GSO attributed the rise to the increase of tuition fees in 20 provinces and cities.
Can Tho City suffers the sharpest CPI increase of 1.27% in October while Hanoi, with 1.22%, followed given food and catering service price hikes during the Thang Long-Hanoi millennium anniversary.
