During the past 5 years, Bien Hoa city government has mobilized both of internal and external resources in support of sustainable development of Bien Hoa city. Increasingly, the city created the ability to attract investments in competition with other provinces and cities nationwide. According to statistics, development investment capital of Bien Hoa city in 2001-2005 reached over 20,487 billion VND, accounted for 50% of that of the whole province, this was equal to 2.15 times the value calculated in 1996-2000. The ratio of domestic investment in Bien Hoa city rose from 24.3% in 2000 to 59.1% in 2005. The city’s inward FDI flows have increased significantly over time and were mainly into industry. Accordingly, the city’s economy grew steadily at an annual rate of 14.29%. Presently, the capacities of industry, services and agriculture make up 70.1%, 28.72% and 1.18%. The boom of industrial production of Bien Hoa city in recent years showed itself in the 15.7 % year-on-year increase of the production. Operationally, the city’s traditional businesses of hand-made pottery, forest products processing, building materials manufacturing, food processing, leather footwear manufacturing etc. have expanded rapidly. Besides, the city government has created favorable conditions for the development of private businesses that showed accelerated growth. During the period, the number of private enterprises increased from 1,618 in 2000 to 2,155 in 2005. The number of people employed by private businesses is growing from 20553 in 2000 to 32070 in 2005. In the other hand, the city has reformed the existing markets and upgraded them in conformity with the cityscape, at the same time, removed old markets and built new ones in residential resettlement areas as approved. Through joint venture projects, the city is concentrating on building trade centers, supermarkets, and ecological tourism areas. So far, Bien Hoa has joined in a venture with partners to build a new supermarket in Tan Tien ward, a plaza in Thanh Binh ward, trade and service area in Tan Mai ward, etc. The city is now calling for joint venture capital to build Ba Xe ecological tourism area and develop waterway tourism…. If these projects are deployed, Bien Hoa will become an attractive destination for investors and tourists at both home and abroad.
