Exhibition highlights livelihood models for people with disabilities

On the afternoon of May 29, the Disability Research and Capacity Development Center (DRD), in coordination with the Department of Health and Catholic Relief Services (CRS), organized an exhibition featuring exemplary livelihood models developed by people with disabilities (PWDs).

This activity was part of the project on “Improving the quality of life for PWDs in provinces heavily affected by Agent Orange,” funded by the U.S. Department of State, with the National Action Centre for Toxic Chemicals and Environmental Treatment (NACCET) serving as the project owner.

Nguyen Duc Dung, Head of the Social Policy Division under the Department of Health, stated that the livelihood support program for PWDs and Agent Orange victims is a component of the Inclusion III-b Project, which is directly implemented in Dong Nai by CRS and its implementing partner, DRD. Since its launch, the project has provided support to 447 PWDs, including 162 educational scholarships and 285 livelihood support packages, helping improve economic opportunities and access to education for hundreds of households with PWDs. With total funding exceeding 4.9 billion VND, the project has provided additional resources for individuals and families with PWDs to develop their livelihoods and stabilize their lives.

To promote examples of PWDs overcoming difficulties and to highlight effective livelihood models, the organizers held an exhibition this year featuring 20 exemplary livelihood models developed by PWDs. Nguyen Duc Dung, Head of the Social Policy Division under the Department of Health, expressed his hope that all stakeholders would continue to join efforts so that project activities could be implemented more widely across Dong Nai, thereby motivating PWDs to overcome difficulties and strive for a better future.

During the program, delegates and PWDs listened to stories shared by the exhibitors, who are PWDs themselves, about their journeys of overcoming challenges and striving to improve their lives, helping spread the message of self-reliance and confidence. On this occasion, the organizing committee presented certificates of participation to the owners of the 20 livelihood models featured at the exhibition.
