The shift toward bicycles, electric vehicles, and public transport not only helps reduce costs but also improves the environment and enhances the urban landscape.
Using electric vehicles
Observations at several electric vehicle shops across the province and nearby areas indicate a noticeable increase in the number of customers researching and purchasing electric vehicles. On major streets such as Nguyen Ai Quoc (Tran Bien ward), Dong Khoi (Tam Hiep ward), Phu Rieng Do (Binh Phuoc ward), as well as near schools, it is increasingly common to see students and workers using electric motorbikes and electric bicycles instead of traditional gasoline-powered motorcycles.
Pham Nhat Huy, an employee of Honda Vinh Phuc Company, noted that electric vehicle buyers are no longer limited to students. Increasingly, working adults and even entire households are purchasing electric vehicles to meet daily commuting needs. This trend reflects a shift in consumer behavior, with greater attention paid to operating cost savings and environmental friendliness.
Truong Quoc Toan, an office worker in Dong Xoai ward, shared, "I used to commute by motorcycle, but recently switched to an electric vehicle. My commute is relatively short, so using an electric vehicle is convenient, charging costs are low, and there is no concern about exhaust fumes or noise. Traveling within the city also feels lighter and more comfortable.”
Many parents are also considering electric vehicles for their children instead of 50cc motorcycles. Le Thi Hong, from Trang Bom commune, said: “I think electric vehicles are suitable for students, with moderate speeds and lower costs. More importantly, they are safer than allowing children to ride motorcycles when they are not yet qualified to drive. I plan to buy one for my child after they finish lower secondary school.”
In addition to electric vehicles, some residents are gradually returning to bicycles for short-distance travel within residential areas or for exercise. On several inner-city routes, the sight of people cycling in the early morning or late afternoon is becoming increasingly common, reflecting a shift toward healthier, more environmentally friendly lifestyles.
Transitioning toward environmental sustainability
Nguyen Thi Hien, a representative of M.T.T.D One Member Limited Liability Company in Long Binh ward, said that demand for electric vehicles has risen markedly in recent times, extending beyond students to include a growing number of workers. On average, the store sells dozens of units each month, with sales surging during peak periods such as the start of the school year or promotional campaigns.
Customers are increasingly concerned with long-term operating costs, convenience, and environmental impact. As a result, many shops have introduced promotions such as trade-ins of old gasoline vehicles for electric ones and installment payment plans, facilitating the transition to greener transport options.
From a management perspective, Nao Thien Anh Minh, Deputy Director of the Dong Nai Department of Construction, emphasized that the trend of shifting toward electric-powered vehicles is a positive signal aligned with the province’s green transportation development goals. As urban areas continue to expand amid increasing environmental pressures, air pollution, and challenges with traffic infrastructure, shifting to low-emission personal vehicles is essential.
The increased use of electric vehicles not only helps people reduce operating costs and limit dependence on conventional fuels but also contributes to cutting greenhouse gas emissions and improving the quality of the urban living environment. This transformation is an inevitable trend in moving toward sustainable development, in line with the country's overall orientation and that of many countries around the world.
Electric vehicles are increasingly becoming a suitable mode of urban transport thanks to their low operating costs, minimal maintenance requirements, and absence of direct emissions. With compact designs and ease of use, they are particularly well-suited for students, workers, and short-distance travel.
