Effective approaches adopted to encourage workers to vote

Dong Nai is a locality with a large concentration of workers employed in industrial parks. This labor force also represents a significant portion of voters participating in the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly (NA)  and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 term. Therefore, grassroots trade unions have proactively coordinated with enterprises to implement many effective and creative approaches in communication and mobilization, helping raise awareness and encouraging workers to actively participate in the election.

Raising political awareness among workers

A recent communication and mobilization session organized by the grassroots Trade Union of Long Thanh Golf Investment and Business Joint Stock Company (LOTAGOLF, Phuoc Tan ward) for union members and workers to participate in the election of deputies to the 16th NA and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 term attracted many participants. At the event, trade union officials carefully guided workers through the voting steps and how to check polling locations via the VNeID application. Through direct, concise, and easy-to-understand exchanges, the session helped workers better understand the significance and importance of the election as well as the rights and responsibilities of voters.

The atmosphere of the session was lively and open; many workers actively asked questions and discussed the procedures, timing, and methods of voting with trade union officials. Pham Nguyen Yen Nhi, an employee of LOTAGOLF, said that the session helped her better understand the election process and its significance. Like her colleagues, she is determined to vote responsibly to help elect capable and dedicated representatives who can represent the voices and legitimate interests of the people.

Lai The Dong, Chairman of the grassroots Trade Union of LOTAGOLF, said that both direct and indirect communication activities have helped raise political awareness among workers, enabling each employee to understand that every ballot is not only a personal right but also the voice of the working class in building the government apparatus. These efforts also aim to ensure workers fully exercise their civic rights and responsibilities, contributing to the overall success of the election.

Given the shift-based nature of industrial work, trade unions at all levels have adopted flexible and creative communication methods - simple, accessible, and timely - so workers can stay informed. At the same time, information about candidates’ brief biographies, action programs, and professional backgrounds has been disseminated so that workers have a sufficient basis to select capable and virtuous representatives for the NA and People’s Councils for the 2026-2031 term.

At Pou Chen Vietnam Enterprise Ltd (Bien Hoa ward), an enterprise with about 14,000 workers, the grassroots Trade Union has implemented flexible election communication methods. Given that workers work in shifts and perform different tasks, the trade union takes advantage of lunch breaks to show videos explaining the voting process on television screens in the canteen every day. This allows workers to rest while learning detailed information about regulations and voting procedures in accordance with the law.

The union also uses bulletin boards, internal broadcasts during breaks, and updates on candidate lists and the voting process. These activities encourage workers and their families to comply with election regulations at their places of residence. Worker Nguyen Van Minh shared that many workers still face difficult living conditions and limited access to cultural facilities and social housing. Therefore, workers hope that the election will select representatives who are capable and dedicated to addressing social welfare policies for workers.

Ensuring workers participate in the election in accordance with regulations

Election Day, March 15, falls on Sunday, when most workers are off, but some still work due to job requirements or overtime. To ensure workers can exercise their civic rights and responsibilities, many enterprises in Dong Nai province have proactively adjusted appropriate production plans, allowing workers to participate fully in the election. Production departments are arranged flexibly, allowing workers to take turns leaving their work to go to polling stations. This close coordination between enterprises and trade union organizations helps workers conveniently exercise their right to vote while maintaining stable production and business operations.

Nguyen Tan Phap, Chairman of the grassroots Trade Union of Pou Chen Vietnam Enterprise Ltd, said that only security and maintenance staff will work on Election Day (March 15) to ensure safety and essential operations within the company. To facilitate workers in exercising their civic rights and responsibilities, the company’s leadership has arranged personnel in rotating shifts. Thanks to this preparation, even those on duty can flexibly arrange their time to fully participate in voting and in accordance with regulations.

In boarding-house areas where many workers live, trade unions of communes and wards have proactively coordinated with local authorities to strengthen communication and mobilization efforts to encourage workers to participate in the election. By directly visiting each boarding-house area and meeting workers after working hours, trade union officials have timely provided information about voting time and locations as well as guidance on necessary procedures, helping workers better understand their civic rights and duties.

For example, the Bien Hoa Ward Trade Union has coordinated with local authorities to visit boarding-house areas with large numbers of workers to learn about their residency situation and listen to their concerns and aspirations. At the same time, they organize communication activities to encourage workers to proactively arrange time to participate in voting in accordance with regulations. As a result, many migrant workers from other provinces have received specific guidance and support to exercise their voting rights smoothly.

Bui Thi Bich Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of the Dong Nai Provincial Federation of Labor, said the province currently has nearly 850,000 union members and workers. Accordingly, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Federation of Labor has issued guidance on election communication among union members and workers. Communication activities are carried out through the trade union’s information system and the network of grassroots trade union officials across the province. So far, communication has been implemented effectively; union members and workers are eagerly looking forward to the national election day.
