The Vietnam Ranking of Higher Education Institutions (VNUR) has officially announced the top 100 universities in Vietnam for 2026.

Accordingly, Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City; and Hanoi University of Science and Technology ranked in the top three of this year’s VNUR rankings. Lac Hong University (Dong Nai Province) was ranked 52nd, a significant rise of 75 places from last year’s 127th position.

This accomplishment marks the fourth consecutive year that VNUR has conducted its rankings using a comprehensive, objective approach aligned with international standards, aiming to drive quality improvements and increase transparency in Vietnam’s higher education system.

For VNUR-2026, a total of 237 higher education institutions in Vietnam offering undergraduate programs or higher were reviewed. Among them, 193 institutions met the criteria for publicly available data and were included in the rankings. Data were gathered from multiple independent sources, including annual reports, enrollment plans, international rankings such as QS, THE, and ARWU; accreditation results from the Ministry of Education and Training; scientific databases such as Scopus and Web of Science; together with data on patents, academic journals, facilities, and electronic libraries.

VNUR does not use subjective surveys and does not accept data submitted directly by universities.

The rankings are based on a set of standards comprising six criteria groups and 18 indicators. Among them, the Accredited Quality criterion carries the highest weight (30%), followed by Teaching (25%), Scientific Publications (20%), Science and Technology Tasks and Patents (10%), Student Quality (10%), and Facilities (5%).

Currently, VNUR remains registered with the International Ranking Expert Group (IREG) and is one of 67 national ranking systems worldwide.
