Paper cranes and national flags presented to offshore platform troops

(ĐN) - On December 29, at DK1 Battalion of Naval Region 2, a working delegation from the Dong Nai Provincial Association of Literature and Arts, together with representatives of Long Giang Primary School, Thac Mo Secondary School, Nguyen Van Troi Secondary School and Phuoc Binh High School, organized a ceremony to present paper cranes, letters and the national flags to the soldiers stationed on the offshore platform.

Receiving the delegation were Senior Lieutenant Colonel Vu Van Xanh, Deputy Party Secretary and Battalion Commander, and Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Trung Duc, Party Secretary and Political Commissar of DK1 Battalion, along with other officers and representatives.

Pham Van Hoang, Standing Vice-President of the Provincial Association of Literature and Arts and Head of the working delegation, said that in response to programs supporting the protection of the homeland's seas, islands, and continental shelf, the Provincial Literature and Arts Association has worked with local schools to launch a movement encouraging pupils to write letters and fold paper cranes as gifts for soldiers serving on the DK1 platforms and in Truong Sa (Spratly Islands).

After two months of the campaign, the pupils and teachers folded around 20,000 paper cranes and wrote more than 500 letters and greeting cards for troops carrying out their duties on offshore platforms and across Vietnam’s continental shelf. The association also mobilised 20 large national flags for the DK1 platforms, along with essential supplies, as a gesture of solidarity from the mainland.

On this occasion, Dong Nai Newspaper and Radio, Television mobilised 16 gift packages for the DK1 platforms, Radar Station 590, Regiment 251 and Naval Region 2.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Trung Duc said that in 2025, under the leadership of the Party Committee and the Command of Naval Region 2, DK1 Battalion successfully fulfilled all assigned tasks, with several areas of outstanding performance.

All officers and personnel, particularly those deployed on the offshore platforms, remain calm, resolute and steadfast in defending the country’s sovereign rights over its continental shelf.

Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Trung Duc emphasised that the heartfelt sentiments of the military, people, and compatriots across the country toward the sea, islands, and continental shelf, expressed through concrete actions such as writing letters, folding paper cranes, visiting, giving gifts, and presenting the national flags, have strengthened morale among troops serving on the DK1 offshore platforms and across DK1 Battalion. He added that such heartfelt sentiments helped the unit sustain its tradition of resilience, discipline and unity, and remain committed to safeguarding the nation’s sacred sovereignty over seas, islands, and the continental shelf.
