To ensure absolute security and safety for the event, police forces, in close coordination with the Project Management Board and relevant agencies, have implemented a comprehensive plan covering situation assessment, control of people and vehicles, and contingency response measures, ensuring that no incidents related to security and public order occur.

Proactively identifying potential issues

The Long Thanh Airport project is currently in the final stage of completing critical components to serve trial operations and exploitation. During this final stretch, thousands of workers, equipment, and materials are concentrated at the construction site, which also poses potential risks to security and public order. In particular, ensuring security and safety for activities and events related to the inauguration of the first technical flight is of paramount importance.

Implementing directives from leaders at all levels, professional units of the provincial public security, the Long Thanh International Airport Police Station, and Long Thanh Commune Police have coordinated to deploy multiple solutions to ensure security, public order, and safety in and around the project area before and during the main events.

Notably, on November 5, the Long Thanh International Airport Police Station received 12 K54 bullets voluntarily handed over by Tran Thanh Sang, a safety officer of a company involved in the Long Thanh Airport project.

Along with receiving the ammunition, the police station intensified communication and advocacy efforts, encouraging officials, employees, and workers at the project to actively report crimes and promptly surrender any remaining weapons, explosives, and supporting tools.

Regarding security and safety for the inauguration and operation of the project, authorities have determined that given the large volume of people entering and leaving the site and the significance of a major event attended by senior leaders, security requirements must be strictly enforced in terms of both procedures and manpower.

Provincial leaders and relevant agencies have identified this as a key task, requiring “absolute safety protection” for the inauguration, groundbreaking ceremonies, and the first flight at Long Thanh Airport.

Ensuring absolute safety for the event

Speaking at the launch ceremony of a peak campaign to combat and suppress crime and safeguard the 14th National Party Congress and other major political events on December 12, Nguyen Van Ut, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee, noted that the ongoing construction of numerous large-scale projects and key national works has significantly impacted the security and public order situation, giving rise to many challenges and increasingly complex criminal activities.

In response, Chairman Nguyen Van Ut requested that, to ensure security and public order in support of socio-economic development, the provincial police, together with departments, agencies, and local authorities, immediately focus on implementing key tasks and advising the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People’s Committee on comprehensive and timely measures to ensure political security and social order and safety.

At the same time, police forces must closely monitor the situation, avoid passivity or surprise, and ensure absolute safety for major provincial events. In the immediate term, priority must be given to implementing security and safety plans for inauguration and groundbreaking ceremonies of projects and works celebrating the 14th National Party Congress, ensuring the safety of Party and State leaders attending the events, as well as security and safety for the event welcoming the first technical flight at Long Thanh Airport.

Based on these requirements, the Long Thanh International Airport Police Station has chaired meetings and maintained regular exchanges with the Project Management Board, the Provincial Mobile Police Division, Long Thanh Commune Police, and the Long Thanh Airport Authority to review progress, update security conditions for each component, clearly assign responsibilities and contact points, and implement coordination regulations previously signed between adjacent units to promptly address any emerging issues.

Commenting on this matter, Lieutenant Colonel Tran Cong Đoan, Head of the Long Thanh International Airport Police Station, said that to ensure security and safety at the project and for the inauguration of the first technical flight, relevant units regularly exchange information, review the construction progress of items directly related to flight operations, and coordinate in controlling people and vehicles entering and leaving the construction site, airside, and terminal areas, promptly detecting and handling any security or safety risks during the completion process.

In addition, the unit has coordinated with the Mobile Police Division of the Provincial Public Security, Long Thanh Commune Police, and the Project Management Board’s security forces to conduct patrols in three shifts per day. These efforts are combined with comprehensive checks of workers’ accommodation, drug testing, and prevention of illegal activities at the project site, with a firm commitment to prevent any complicated issues related to security and public order. Task forces are also on standby 24/7 to respond to any incidents.

Meanwhile, Long Thanh Commune Police regularly coordinate patrols in the project construction area. Through patrols combined with communication and reminders, contractors, workers, and laborers are urged to strictly comply with legal regulations and safety measures throughout the construction process. Traffic regulation is also coordinated to prevent localized congestion when working delegations enter or leave the site.

Recently, Long Thanh Commune Police coordinated to organize six communication sessions for approximately 2,500 workers and laborers on drug prevention at the Long Thanh International Airport project, and conducted a communication campaign on the Law on Residence for about 50 officials responsible for security and safety of contractors at the project.

With the motto of proactiveness, coordination, and readiness to respond, functional agencies have deployed a comprehensive system of technical and tactical solutions—from monitoring and prevention to incident handling—to ensure absolute security and safety for the inauguration of the first technical flight at Long Thanh Airport on December 19 and subsequent activities at the project.
