As scheduled, Phase 1 of Long Thanh International Airport will be inaugurated on December 19, 2025, and put into commercial operation in the first half of 2026. Once operational, the airport is expected to contribute to the socio-economic development of Dong Nai Province through logistics services, international transit, commerce, tourism, supporting industries, and satellite urban areas. To turn that opportunity into a driving force for the province's development, contributing to achieving the double-digit economic growth target, Dong Nai leaders proposed several solutions during Party General Secretary To Lam’s visit to the province on November 13 to inspect the Long Thanh Airport Project.
Specifically, the provincial leadership boldly proposed that the Party chief and the Politburo approve a policy authorizing the Government to review and evaluate the implementation results of specific mechanisms and policies. This would serve as a basis for drafting a National Assembly Resolution on piloting several specific mechanisms and policies for Dong Nai Province’s development in certain sectors. The provincial leadership also put forward proposals related to the planning of the Long Thanh – Nhon Trach region and transport connectivity infrastructure to expand the province’s development space.
Dong Nai is a populous province with a sizeable economy, and a strategic location in the Southeast region. The provincial leadership’ proposal for the central government to consider piloting flexible, specific mechanisms aims to address bottlenecks in planning, land clearance, public investment disbursement, attracting high-quality foreign investment, and implementing regional connectivity projects, thereby creating the conditions for a strong breakthrough in provincial development. In addition, the province seeks to accelerate investment in transport corridors connected to Long Thanh Airport and adjust the planning of the Long Thanh – Nhon Trach region toward expanding population size, urban space, and building an airport city to restructure the province’s growth drivers. Building a modern airport city would create a logistics–services–high-tech ecosystem, helping Long Thanh become a new economic center for Dong Nai and the entire Southeast region and southern Vietnam. This approach aligns not only with economic development goals but also with the vision of building modern, sustainable urban areas.
Arguably, Dong Nai proposals form a synchronized chain of solutions involving flexible mechanisms, seamless transport connectivity, high-quality investment attraction, and modern urban–service development. These solutions expected to create the momentum needed for Dong Nai province to achieve stable double-digit growth.
The provincial leaders’ proposals were acknowledged and approved by Party General Secretary To Lam. This gives Dong Nai leadership a basis to move forward confidently and decisively in turning opportunities into concrete outcomes, with Dong Nai becoming a growth engine for the Southeast region and the country as a whole. As the Party General Secretary directed: Dong Nai should take this as the foundation for achieving double-digit growth, accelerating the progress and efficient operation of the Long Thanh Airport Project, and becoming an economic center of the Southeast region, the southern key economic region, Vietnam, and even Southeast Asia.
