The project to upgrade and expand Provincial road 753 and build Ma Da Bridge, connecting with Long Thanh International Airport (Dong Nai) and Cai Mep – Thi Vai Port (Ho Chi Minh City), was approved by the Dong Nai provincial People’s Committee under Decision No. 2118/QD-UBND dated December 27, 2023. In December 2024, the project officially broke ground, spanning a total length of 13km and running through Dong Tam commune, Tan Loi commune, and Binh Phuoc ward, with a total investment of VND 480 billion.

Currently, construction units are making rapid progress, thanks to strong support and cooperation from locals.

Securing materials, racing against time
The upgrade and expansion of Provincial Road 753 are being carried out through four construction packages across the entire route, with the dual objective of accelerating progress and ensuring quality.

Package No. 4 spans more than 4 kilometers, from Km8+989 to Km13, and marks the final section of the project. The terrain here is complex, with numerous hills and slopes, making site leveling particularly challenging during the rainy season. Despite this, construction activity on-site remains busy. As of now, the Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board has handed over 92% of the site. The contractor has completed 100% of the roadbed and 70% of the crushed stone base layer.

Vo Van Hung, Chief Commander of Package No. 4, stated: “At present, many construction projects in the area are facing material shortages, especially construction stone. However, we have mobilized all available resources, coordinated with distant quarries, and arranged transportation to ensure timely supply. Our goal is to complete and hand over the entire project by December 25, 2025, ahead of schedule.”

Similarly, Package No. 3, spanning 3.689 kilometers from Km5+300 to Km8+989, is also progressing rapidly. Chief Commander Pham Khac Thinh stated: “We are applying a rolling construction method, working quickly while ensuring quality. As residents hand over land, we immediately carry out construction. The biggest challenge at the moment is the frequent rain. However, we have mobilized machinery and divided the workforce into multiple shifts, working at noon, at night, and even on Saturdays and Sundays. To date, we have completed 70% of the asphalt surfacing on the section.”

For Package No. 1, running from Km0+000 to Km2+250 with a total length of 2.25 kilometers, progress is generally on schedule. Although this package involves the construction of two bridges (the small Rat bridge and the large Rat bridge), more than 80% of the total workload has been completed. The remaining work is pending site clearance from several organizations and households to facilitate the construction of sidewalks and drainage systems.

Overall, the packages have achieved an average completion rate of more than 70%. However, there are still difficulties as electricity, telecommunications and water facilities within the project area have not been relocated. Moreover, following the provincial merger and the implementation of the two-level local government model, administrative procedures have undergone changes, creating challenges in site clearance. The Project Management Board is urging relevant agencies to expedite compensation, relocation, and handover of land. At the same time, the board is submitting a proposal to the Provincial People’s Committee to adjust the investment policy, adding the remaining 17km of Provincial road 753 to ensure synchronization with the section under construction and the connection to Ma Da Bridge.

Strong public support
As a household business owner trading along the frontage of Provincial road 753 in Cay Diep hamlet, Dong Tam commune, Tran Thi Hang shared: “With the State investing in upgrading and widening this road and building Ma Da Bridge to connect with the provincial center, business opportunities will expand. Under the road boundary, my family has to move back about 5 meters. So I have started cutting down trees planted nearly 20 years ago and dismantling sheds to hand over the site. We are very supportive, because once the road is open, people’s livelihoods will improve.”

In the same hamlet, Le Thi Tuyet, 65, who migrated from the Mekong Delta nearly 30 years ago, runs a small eatery and drinks stall mainly serving truck drivers and passersby. She recalled years of hardship with the deteriorated Provincial road 753, riddled with potholes, dusty in dry weather and muddy during rains. “Now the road is being upgraded, becoming wider and smoother, linking regional traffic. We are truly excited,” she said.

“When the commune People’s Committee and the Provincial Project Management Board informed us of the boundary markers, our family proactively moved the shop further inside. Once the road is complete, we plan to expand into other business areas,” Tuyet added.
