Vietnam’s No. 1 female badminton player, Nguyen Thuy Linh, defeated South Korea’s Kim Min-ji 2-0 in the semi-finals, securing her spot in the women’s singles final of the Yonex Sunrise Vietnam Open for the fourth consecutive year.

On the afternoon of September 13, at Nguyen Du Gymnasium in Ho Chi Minh City, Nguyen Thuy Linh (world No. 18) faced South Korea’s Kim Min-ji (world No. 123) in the women’s singles semi-final of the 2025 Vietnam Open badminton tournament.
Despite being ranked over a hundred places below Thuy Linh, Kim Min-ji, known as the women’s singles champion at the 2024 Vietnam International Series, put on an impressive performance, posing serious challenges to the Vietnamese player in the first game. With a series of powerful long rallies, Kim Min-ji repeatedly gained the lead. However, the Dong Nai native displayed composure and tenacity, staying close on her opponent’s heels.
At one point, Kim Min-ji scored a five-point streak to create a second significant lead at 18-15. In this challenging moment, Vietnam’s top player displayed timely composure, scoring crucial points to tie the game at 18-18 before ultimately winning the first game 21-18.

Riding the momentum from her first-game win, Thuy Linh delivered an outstanding performance in the second, quickly taking a 6-2 lead and extending the gap to 10-5. Although Kim Min-ji staged a late comeback to level the score, Thuy Linh held her ground to close out the second game 21-16, sealing a 2-0 overall victory.
With this result, Vietnam’s No. 1 female player, Nguyen Thuy Linh, has reached the Vietnam Open final for the fourth consecutive year, giving her the opportunity to defend her women’s singles title.
Thuy Linh's opponent in the women's singles final of the Vietnam Open tomorrow will be Chinese player Cai Yanyan, ranked world No. 107. Cai Yanyan reached the final by defeating Indian player Ashmita Chaliha, ranked 104 places lower, 2-0 (21-19, 21-15) in 37 minutes in the other semi-final.
