Over 151 million VND donated through “Sharing the pain” program

On September 10, the "Sharing the Pain" program by Dong Nai Newspaper and Radio–Television, in coordination with the provincial Sponsoring Association for the Disabled, Orphans and Poor Patients, provided support to the family of Chu Thi Phuong (Hamlet 1, Dong Tam commune, Dong Nai province), a young mother battling a serious illness while raising her three small children.

Attending the event were representatives of the Dong Tam commune authorities; the main sponsor, Kim Huong Jewelry Company (Binh Phuoc ward); co-sponsor Thanh Cong Transport Co., Ltd.; along with various charitable clubs, groups, and volunteer teams from across the province.

Tears of sympathy quietly fell as Phuong's story was introduced. At 35, she was once a devoted wife and a resilient mother who worked tirelessly to ensure her children could stay in school. But a cruel illness has shattered the modest dreams of this low-income family. In March 2025, Phuong was diagnosed with cervical cancer. Soon after came complications, a heart attack and pulmonary embolism, which have left her increasingly debilitated. With no money for hospitalization or treatment, she had no choice but to return home and endure the ongoing pain.

The burden of providing for the family and covering his wife's medical expenses has fallen entirely on the frail shoulders of Ly Minh Hieu. Harsh circumstances have forced Hieu's eldest son, only 14 years old, to drop out of school and follow his father to work as a rubber tapper. The future of the two younger children, aged 10 and 3, has also become uncertain in their severely deteriorated charity house.

"When witnessing Phuong's situation, we are reminded that health is the most precious asset, and human love is an invaluable source of strength," the program organizers said. Immediately after the speech, sponsors, co-sponsors, businesses, as well as various charitable clubs, groups, and volunteers from within and outside the province took turns extending their support to Phuong's family. The total sum of support was up to 151.66 million VND, with 41.66 million VND helping Phuong prepare for her first radiation therapy session. The remaining 110 million VND will be placed in a savings account under Hieu's name and managed by the local authorities to ensure long-term treatment for Phuong and the education of the young children.

The most emotional moment came when Phuong, with tears in her eyes, expressed heartfelt thanks to the program and its benefactors: "In my most painful and despairing moments, my family was embraced by the kindness of compassionate people, along with meaningful gifts, both material and spiritual. This endeavor has been an immense source of encouragement, giving me the strength to keep fighting my illness, to hold on to life, and to protect my children's future education. I am truly grateful and deeply appreciative."
