Hanoi - Dong Nai Eye Hospital joins hands for community vision care

In recent years, Hanoi - Dong Nai Eye Hospital has focused not only on improving professional quality but also on actively engaging in charitable activities aimed at serving the community.

With the motto "Bringing healthcare services closer to the people, for their health and vision," the hospital has initiated a series of free medical examination and treatment programs for residents throughout the province, particularly focusing on elderly seniors, war veterans, former youth volunteers, and individuals in challenging circumstances.

Specialist Doctor I Tran The Thang, Director of Operations of Hanoi - Dong Nai Eye Hospital, stated: After nearly one year of implementation, the charitable programs have yielded clear results. Thousands of individuals, primarily elderly seniors and those in challenging circumstances, have received eye examinations and early detection of eye diseases. Thanks to timely diagnoses, many cases have been treated and operated on, restoring eyesight and bringing joy to their lives.

Thang noted that statistics from community health screenings show that over 90 percent of elderly patients suffer from cataracts, the leading cause of blindness if not treated promptly with surgery. Cataracts are a common condition caused by the natural aging of the eyes, in which the lens becomes cloudy and vision is significantly reduced.

In addition, many individuals also suffer from conditions such as pterygium, entropion, blepharitis, watery eyes, or other ocular surface diseases. Although these conditions do not result in rapid blindness, they diminish quality of life, cause discomfort and pain, and restrict daily activities.

Notably, during these medical check-ups, the hospital also noted a rising prevalence of school-related refractive errors among children, attributed to excessive use of electronic devices and intense study demands.

In response to this reality, Hanoi - Dong Nai Eye Hospital has initiated the "Bright Eyes at School" program, partnering with schools to carry out regular eye check-ups, identify refractive errors early, and supply glasses for students in challenging situations.

The charitable activities of Hanoi - Dong Nai Eye Hospital not only enable people, particularly those in remote areas and disadvantaged situations, to access high-quality medical services but also showcase the social responsibility and humanitarian spirit of the healthcare sector. Every successful surgery and every restored sight brings joy and happiness that spreads throughout the community.
