On August 26, the humanitarian television program “Aspiration for life” of Dong Nai Newspaper, Radio and Television organized a program to connect compassionate donors to extend love and support the family of Huynh Thi Chi (59 years old) - a household in extreme hardship with three orphaned and ailing members, currently renting a small house in group 7, Tam Hiep ward, Dong Nai province.

The program was organized by Dong Nai Newspaper, Radio and Television, the Association for the support of the people with Disabilities, Orphans, and Poor Patients of Dong Nai province, in collaboration with the Unit Advertising Joint Stock Company (Ho Chi Minh City), with Tan Phuoc Khanh Trading and Manufacturing Coil Steel Joint Stock Company as the main sponsor.

When the delegation arrived, the less than 20m² rented room, damaged after days of storms, was too cramped to accommodate everyone, evoking a sense of deep sympathy. Chi lost her parents at a young age. As she grew up, she married Nguyen Van Dung, but poverty clung them persistently. They had to leave their hometown in Can Tho and move to Dong Nai to make a living.

During her youth, Chi worked as a cleaner. Now, in her old age and frail health, she runs a small stall at the alley entrance. Meanwhile, Dung spends his days roaming the streets, scavenging for old tire casings under the scorching sun and dust, hoping to earn a meager income.

Before poverty could be overcome, misfortunes struck the family one after another. Their eldest son, after a marital breakdown, fell into depression and has suffered from mental illness for seven years. Their youngest daughter passed away from illness, leaving behind two small children and a debt of medical expenses. The son-in-law left without a trace, leaving the two children to rely on their grandparents, struggling in severe deprivation. The five-member family survives in despair, with no insurance and no access to any supportive policies.

Showing sympathy and support for Chi’s family, the program “Aspiration for life” awarded a total of 117.1 million VND. The organizing committee allocated 37.1 million VND to help the family pay debts and start a small business. The remaining 80 million VND was placed in savings under Chi’s name and managed by the Association for the support of the people with Disabilities, Orphans, and Poor Patients of Dong Nai province, to fund medical treatment for family members and cover the schooling of the two grandchildren.

Overwhelmed with emotion, Chi shared: “After nearly 20 years of struggling far from home to make a living, I never thought there would be a day when we received so much care and help from kind-hearted donors. I am so happy… I’m happy because my grandchildren can continue studying, I’m happy because there is medicine for my son, and a little capital for me to do small trading to get through the days and raise the children…”

The program “Aspiration for life” is not only about giving gifts, but also about sowing seeds of love, uplifting the vulnerable amidst their daily struggles to make a living, for a compassionate heart is all that is needed to ensure no one is left behind.
