Dong Nai sets record for Vietnam’s largest fried sticky rice ball stuffed with cashew nuts

On the afternoon of August 20, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dong Nai Province, in collaboration with the Dong Nai Tourism Association, held a gathering to celebrate the anniversary of the founding of the Dong Nai Provincial Chefs’ Association (August 20).

Attending the event were Member of the Provincial Standing Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Dong Nai People’s Committee, Le Truong Son; Provincial Party Member and Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Le Thi Ngoc Loan; Vice President of the Vietnam Tourism Association, Nguyen Thi Khanh; along with representatives from the Vietnam Records Organization (VietKings), the Provincial Tourism Association, the Chefs' Association, and hundreds of international chefs and culinary experts from across the country.

At the gathering, the Vietnam Records Organization officially recognized a new national culinary record: Vietnam’s largest fried sticky rice ball stuffed with cashew nuts, created by the Dong Nai Chefs’ Association under the Dong Nai Tourism Association during the 2025 Dong Nai Culinary Festival. The record-breaking dish measured 68.2 cm in diameter, 215 cm in circumference, and 39 cm in height.

According to Nguyen Thi Quynh Ngoc, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Records Institute and General Secretary of VietKings, this new record has exceeded the previous benchmark for the fried sticky rice ball record set in 2009.

The founding anniversary of the Dong Nai Chefs' Association was part of the Dong Nai Food Festival, which also included fruit and vegetable carving contests, cooking competitions, exchanges with master chefs, culinary exchange activities, and particularly the recognition of the record for the largest fried sticky rice ball stuffed with cashew nuts in Vietnam.

In recent years, the Dong Nai Chefs’ Association has significantly contributed to the development and promotion of the province’s distinctive culinary culture. The association has collaborated with local departments to set multiple national records, including Vietnam’s largest steamed sponge cake, Vietnam’s most enormous pomelo salad platter, and the largest number of people simultaneously frying sticky rice. Notably, Dong Nai's fried sticky rice ball dish has been recognized as an Asian culinary record, while the pomelo salad was listed among Vietnam's signature dishes by the Vietnam Culinary Culture Association.
