Formerly classified as remote and underdeveloped communes in the old Binh Phuoc Province, both Dak Nhau and Duong 10 communes had low starting-points, high rates of ethnic minority and poor households. However, with strong efforts and determination of the entire political system and the consensus of the people, both communes have successfully achieved new-style rural area status.

Building upon previous achievements and leveraging the strengths of the newly merged commune, the Party, government, and people of Dak Nhau are striving to achieve advanced new-style rural area status by 2030.

A solid foundation

In the past, infrastructure in the area was lacking and poor, educational levels were limited, and 4 out of 13 hamlets were classified as extremely difficult, with over 50% of residents being ethnic minority people. These were the major obstacles causing not a few difficulties and challenges during the implementation of the 2020–2025 Party Congress resolutions in both Dak Nhau and Duong 10 communes. Given that situation, the Party Committees of the two communes provided timely and flexible leadership, uniting and promoting democracy to seize opportunities and overcome challenges. As a result, key targets of the 2020–2025 Party Congress resolutions have been successfully met, with many important outcomes.

During the 2020–2025 term, former Dak Nhau and Duong 10 commune received investments totaling hundreds of billions of VND to build modern rural infrastructure, including electricity, roads, schools, and health stations, successfully fulfilling all 19 new-style rural criteria. All inter-commune, inter-hamlet, and inter-group roads were paved with asphalt or cement and equipped with streetlights. This is one of the major highlights, helping attract investment, promote socio-economic development, and improve living standards and the quality of residents’ life.

Notably, all 7 schools in the two communes have received investment towards meeting national standards, and 6 out of 7 have already achieved Level 1 national standard certification.

At the same time, the local economic structure has shifted in the right direction, with decreasing agricultural density while that of trade and services have grown. This transition has created stable employment, improved locals’ livelihoods, and raised the average income to over 80 million VND per person per year. The poverty rate has dropped sharply, especially among ethnic minorities, and now stands at just 0.58% of total households. Cultural values are preserved and promoted, while national defense and security are firmly maintained.

Aiming for advanced new-style rural areas

Following the policy on merging administrative units at communal level, the new Dak Nhau commune was established through the merger of the former Dak Nhau and Duong 10 communes. It now spans over 182 km² and is home to more than 23,000 people.

To Hoai Nam, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the Dak Nhau Commune People’s Committee, shared: “Our commune’s strong point is its fertile, abundant land suitable for high-value crops such as durian, rubber, pepper, coffee, and cashew, with sufficient space for further expansion. This provides a solid foundation and an opportunity for Dak Nhau to leverage its advantages, unlock its development potential and have sound policies that win people’s hearts, aiming to reach advanced new-style rural status by 2030.”

According to the draft political report to be presented at the upcoming 2025–2030 Party Congress, the Dak Nhau commune’s Party Committee has identified five key tasks, four breakthrough areas, and a wide range of practical solutions to specify and soon translate the Congress Resolution into daily life.

“With over 73% of the commune’s land used for production, we are determined to take our agricultural advantage as the foundation for local economic development in the upcoming term. In particular, the commune will gradually transition towards trade and services, while focusing on developing high-quality agricultural products as its strengths in the near future.” shared To Hoai Nam.

Sharing the commune’s key to achieving advanced new-style rural status, Nguyen Trong Lam, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the People’s Council of Dak Nhau commune said: “The commune’s Party Committee has specified main contents this in the draft document for the first Dak Nhau Party Congress for the 2025–2030 term. In which, we focus on core aspects such as human resources and synchronized infrastructure investment. At the same time, the commune aims to promote regional connectivity with neighboring localities, with a focus on developing clean, green, sustainable, and efficient agriculture.”
