(ĐN)- Ethnic groups in Thanh Son commune, Dinh Quan district have recently held the Long Tong (going to the field) festival.

This is a traditional ritual of ethnic people in the northern mountainous provinces which has been first-ever organized by locals from Tay, Nung, Mong, Thai and Dao ethnic minority groups in their new land.

Long Tong festival is observed on the eighth day of the first lunar month to pray for favorable weather, bumper crops, and happiness. The annual event began with a parade of nine trays of local specialties as offering to gods to thank them for good crops and hope for a well-off and blissful life in the New Year.

The event is also a chance for local boys and girls to exchange folks art performances and take part in folk games like con throwing (a game throwing a cloth ball).

Chairman of Thanh Son communal People’s Committee said the festival will be held annually, helping it become a traditional cultural beautiful character of local ethnic minority people.
