The IIASA is an international research organisation based in Laxenburg, Austria.
The institution was founded in 1972, and is sponsored by prestigious scientific organisations from its member countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
It conducts policy-oriented research into problems of a global nature that are too large or too complex to be solved by a single country or academic discipline.
Admission into IIASA will enable Vietnam to collaborate with other member countries in working out solutions to pressing global issues such as pollution, energy crisis, climate change and overpopulation.
Through IIASA activities, Vietnamese scientists and regulators will have access to global databases and new research methods into areas of interest to Vietnam, enabling the formulation of appropriate policies to counter the negative impacts of natural and man-made disasters.
In addition, young Vietnamese scientists will benefit from access to IIASA’s training opportunities, including the Young Scientists Summer Programme (YSSP) and the Postdoctoral Programme.
Vietnam’s accession will raise the number of IIASA members to 21.
