Vietnamese anti-virus software designed for mobile phones have appeared on the domestic market, which has been flooded with foreign products.
While foreign brands such as Trend Micro, Kapersky and McAfee have been familiar to Vietnamese users for the last two years, Vietnam made products have just been marketed, diffidently.
Bkav and CMC, the Vietnamese security solution providers, have just introduced anti-virus software products for mobile phones to users. Vu Ngoc Son, Research and Development Director of Bkav, said that the company has uploaded its product into some forums and to www.mobile.bkav.com.vn, so that users can download the products for trial and make suggestions. The company plans to officially market the completed product by October 2011.
Prior to that, CMC InfoSec, also introduced its anti-virus software product for mobile phones. Two months after launching the anti-virus version in English into the market, on September 21, CMC InfoSec updated the Vietnamese version for CMC Mobile Security and upgraded a series of other protection features in order to better support users in using anti-virus software.
CMC has also added SMS filter to CMC Mobile Security which allows preventing spam mails from unwanted mobile phones. With the new function, users can easily escape from troublesome if they just make a simple act of putting the mobile phone numbers into the blacklist.
CMC Mobile Security allows to protect the process of data exchange under the modes of web browser, USB or via Bluetooth.
A source from CMC InfoSec said that after two months since the day of launching, the English version of CMC Mobile Security had seen more than 5000 downloads, via market.android.com, of which 60 percent in Vietnam, more than 14 percent in the US and 6 percent in India.
Meanwhile, users can free download CMC Mobile Security (Vietnamese version) from https://market.android.com/details?id=com.cmcinfosec.mobilesec or www.cmcinfosec.com.
Son from Bkav said that most of the available anti-virus software products for mobile phones run on android operation system, not suitable for Symbian or other operation systems.
This has been explained by the fact that viruses on mobile phones have just appeared on the mobile phones using android operation system, not on the phones running on other operation systems. In order to have anti-virus software products fitting other operation systems, security companies will have to make research to create specific products, while there is no product that fits all types of operation systems.
When asked why Vietnamese products did not appear sooner in the market, Son said that Vietnamese companies only think of marketing their products now not because of the limited capability. He said that it is now the right time to introduce the products, when smart phones have become more popular in Vietnam. Moreover, viruses on mobile phones have only appeared recently.
Samsung GALAXY SII, Nokia E7 and Google Nexus S have been cited by VnMedia as the most wanted smart phone models in the Vietnamese market after considering the sales and the functions of the products.
In related news, the latest IDG’s survey, which collected 6000 polls, shows that Nokia remains the biggest choice for Vietnamese people when they seek to buy smart phones.
Truong Van Anh, Regional Director of IDG Vietnam, said that 51 percent of people are Nokia users, while 50 percent said Nokia are the best products. Meanwhile, Apple’s iPhone has 11 percent of users, but 29 percent of users believe this is the best products. HTC products have gathered 7 percent of votes and Blackberry 5 percent.
