A Vietnamese scientists and two Chinese colleagues have discovered a new floral species named Manglietia crassifolia in Sapa district in the northern mountain province of Lao Cai.

Vu Quang Nam, a botanist from the Hanoi-based Forestry University, said that he and two Chinese scientists have found Manglietia crassifolia trees in the Hoang Lien national park, in Sapa district.

The new species is of 15 meters in height with a trunk diameter of around 20 centimeters and its flower is in white color, big and very scented. The finding was announced in ‘BioOne’, a reputed journal in the USA.

Last year Vu Quang Nam and a Chinese colleague discovered a new floral variety named ‘Manglietia sapaensis’ also in Hoang Lien National Park, which was announced in Nordic Biology Journal in Sweden.

Located on Hoang Lien Son Mountain, from 1,000 to 3,000 meters above sea level, Hoang Lien National Park, founded in 2002, is one of the centers for various floral species and ranked “A level” for the biological value, by the Global Environment Fund.
