(ĐN) - On June 15, Dong Nai provincial People’s Committee held a meeting in respond to ASEAN Dengue Day.
Over 1,600 cases of dengue fever, including one death, have been reported in Dong Nai province since early this year, 30 percent lower than those in the same period last year.
Nhon Trach is among localities hardest hit by a spread of dengue fever. So far this year, dengue cases in the district have reached nearly 500, accounting for over 30 percent of the province’s total cases.
Deputy Director Huynh Cao Hai of the provincial Department of Health highlighted the importance of environmental sanitation, killing mosquito larva among the community.
He noted that neither vaccines against dengue fever nor effective treatment have been found, underlining the need for higher responsibility of relevant agencies in preventing the disease in the locality.
Hospitals and medical stations in province should improve their capacity in forecasting and detecting risky factors for timely response, while preparing equipment and chemicals for necessary circumstances, he added.
