State President Truong Tan Sang will attend the 20 th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting in Vladivostok , Russia from September 6-9 at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin.
State President Truong Tan Sang will attend the 20 th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting in Vladivostok , Russia from September 6-9 at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin.
Sang’s attendance aims to speed up the implementation of Vietnam ’s foreign policy and continue promoting the country’s role in APEC through its active contributions to APEC’s cooperation and the major contents of this meeting.
Vietnam will also take the advantage of APEC cooperation programmes to stabilise the macro economy, boosting the economic restructuring and maintaining a reasonable growth rate as well as strengthening cooperation and gaining APEC’s support for its security and development issues.
The country has been interested in APEC’s cooperation contents on strengthening regional economic connectivity, boosting creative growth, ensuring food and water resources security and coping with natural disasters, especially when it is working hard on economic restructuring and growth model shift in a sustainable manner.
Since it joined APEC in 1998, Vietnam has always been an active, dynamic and responsible member of the forum, proactively promoting APEC cooperation in various fields.
The country also successfully hosted more than 70 initiatives and activities in such areas as trade, investment, technical cooperation, health, emergency preparedness and anti-terrorism.
It successfully organised the 14 th APEC Leaders’ Meeting and the 18 th Foreign-Economic Ministerial Meeting in November 2006, the APEC Business Summit, six ministerial meetings, three senior officials’ meetings and hundreds of group meetings.
Vietnam has made active and proactive contributions to the operations of working groups and the building of APEC’s strategies and action plans in all fields. The country has seriously implemented APEC’s commitments and proactively proposed many initiatives. It served as Vice Chair of the APEC Health Working Group in the 2009-2010 term.-VNA
Vietnam’s position in APEC has been increasingly heightened when other APEC members have highly valued its active role in 2012 and agreed to support its taking of the Co-chair of the APEC Emergency Preparedness Working Group in the 2012-2013 term.
