The Government has issued Decree No. 26/2017/NĐ-CP stipulating the functions, tasks, rights and organization of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).
Accordingly, the ministry realizes the State management functions in terms of diplomacy, including borders, national territory, diplomatic works with Overseas Vietnamese, signing and implementing international conventions and agreements, monitoring Viet Nam’s representative agencies abroad and controlling public services under its management.
The MFA hosts and coordinates with relevant ministries and agencies to establish State diplomatic plans, collect diplomatic plans of ministries, ministerial-level agencies and localities and cooperate with other related agencies to guide foreign affairs for agencies.
The ministry cooperates with other relevant agencies to protect the sovereignty and interest of the State as well as legitimate rights and interest of Vietnamese organizations and citizens overseas as regulated by the Vietnamese and international regulations.
It also protects the State’s interest and Vietnamese citizens and legality’s legitimate rights and interest overseas in line with Vietnamese and international laws, legalizes and recognizes consulates, authorizes justice, civil status and nationality, entry and exit of Vietnamese citizens and foreigners.
The MFA hosts and coordinates with other agencies to inspect and evaluate Viet Nam’s border management situations, national territory, space, seas, islands and continental shelf, address disputes, struggle to protect territorial border and integrity, sovereign rights and national jurisdiction and propose suitable management guidelines, policies and measures.
