(ĐN) - An increased incidence of dengue and hand-foot-and-mouth disease was recorded across Dong Nai as they are at their peaks of the year, said Director Cao Trong Nguong of the province’s Preventive Medicine Centre.

As many as 3,500 dengue cases were reported in the province in the first eight months 2015, 153% higher than that of last year, including two deaths. In August alone, there were more than 1,000 new suspect cases, up 135 percent compared to previous month.

Meanwhile, Dong Nai also reported 233 hand-foot-mouth cases in August, a month-on-month increase of 27 percent.

From now to the year’s end, the province will conduct epidemiological surveys to have specific assessments of the disease situations in each locality and take appropriate preventive measures.

The health sector is also enhancing communication campaigns to raise public awareness of the issue, especially in vulnerable areas.
