Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the remarks during a December 12 meeting with representatives from Vietnam’s international donors in Hanoi.

Deputy PM Phuc, who heads the National Committee for HIV/AIDS, Drugs and Prostitution Prevention and Control, said Vietnam greatly appreciates the donors for their support in finance and technology and for their experience in the field.

He noted that Vietnam still faces many challenges in the fight against HIV/AIDS, in addition to difficulties sparked by declining international funding and new problems that have arisen in the work.

On behalf of the international organisations and donors, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Vietnam Pratibha Mehta lauded Vietnam’s efforts in socio-economic development and the fight against HIV/AIDS, drugs and prostitution.

She emphasised that the country should further focus its resources on preventing and combating HIV/AIDS while copying good models in the field to fulfil all millennium development goals.

Representatives from international organisations also pledged to continue aiding the Vietnamese Government in realising policies and programmes to control HIV/AIDS, drugs and prostitution, hoping to maintain the country’s achievements in the field.

They also pledged to provide with technical assistance and share experience in designing related policies.
