(ĐN)- Director Huynh Minh Hoan of Dong Nai Provincial Health Department on December 2 visited patient Do Thi Dieu Huyen living in Bien Hoa city’s Trang Dai ward, who had been saved from amniotic fluid embolism.

Earlier, the 33-year-old pregnant woman Do Thi Dieu Huyen was brought to the Dong Nai General Hospital as her delivery date was approaching. Doctors diagnosed her health condition as stable for a normal delivery.

However, three hours later, Huyen suddenly suffered breathing failure, fits of convulsions and turned blue. Doctors were also unable to measure her pulse and blood pressure.

Huyen was rushed to the operation room in an attempt to take out the baby as the doctors believed the mother was suffering from amniotic fluid embolism.

At that time, Huyen had stopped breathing and her heart was not beating. Doctors saved the baby by cutting off her womb.

After the operation, Huyen had postpartum hemorrhage and fell into a coma.

After more than two weeks, Huyen’s condition improved and she recovered. Her baby had been taken care of at the Children Hospital 2 meanwhile and already discharged from hospital.

Dr. Phan Huy Anh Vu, Director of the General Hospital said that amniotic fluid embolism is a dangerous obstetrical complication with high mortality rate of 90 percent. This is the first successful case of amniotic fluid embolism in the hospital.

Director Huynh Minh Hoan highly appreciated the hospital’s staff for their closely coordination to diagnose and save the woman.

He also presented Dong Nai Provincial Health Department’s certificates of merit to the hospital’s two collectives and two doctors for their contributions in saving the woman.
