The suspension is aimed at guaranteeing the interests of the State agencies, the investor and the residents pending a decision from competent agencies on some contents related to the project’s financial status. The tollgate is part of a project to repair, upgrade and widen some sections on National Highway 20, according to the directorate.
Following the Transport Ministry’s directive, the directorate reviewed the regulations, the project contract and documents of the State Audit of Vietnam and other relevant documents to determine when to stop toll collection at the site.
On October 8, the directorate held a meeting with the project owner to point out some hindrances facing the project. From October 12 to 13, the directorate and the project owner reviewed the project’s financial solution.
The investor was tasked with publicly announcing the suspension, enhancing inspection and management on toll collection and reporting the amount collected to the directorate from now until the date of suspension, VietnamPlus news site reported.
Besides, the project owner was asked to protect the assets of the tollgate and ensure traffic safety after toll collection is suspended.
The directorate also asked the project owner to offer a refund to customers whose monthly tickets remain valid and offer benefits to laborers when the tollgate suspends toll collection in line with the prevailing regulations.
