(ĐN)- Some VND100 trillion will be invested into four expressway projects passing through Dong Nai in the coming time, the largest number ever.
The projects include Ben Luc-Long Thanh, Dau Giay-Lien Khuong, Dau Giay-Phan Thiet and Bien Hoa-Vung Tau expressways, which will help connect provinces in the southern region, thus promoting socio-economic development in the region.
Dau Giay-Phan Thiet expressway project requires a total investment of more than VND17.7 trillion. It is envisaged stretching 101.28 kilometers. Once completed, the expressway will shorten travel time between HCMC and provinces in the south-central region, cut traffic on the National Highway 1A sections in Dong Nai and Binh Thuan provinces, and boost the development of tourist areas and industrial parks along the road.
The first section of the expressway is scheduled to get off the ground in quarter one of 2017 and be opened to traffic in 2019. Meanwhile, construction of the second section is planned to start in late 2017 and be completed in three years. According to the Project Management Unit 1 (PMU1) under the Ministry of Transport, the expressway was divided into two sections with the first section running 36 kilometers from Dau Giay to Xuan Loc district in Dong Nai province funded by the State budget and the International Development Association (IDA) under the World Bank (WB). Relevant agencies are drawing up a construction plan for the second 62-kilometer-long section from Xuan Loc district to Phan Thiet city in Binh Thuan province under the public-private partnership (PPP) format for the Government to consider and approve.
Bien Hoa-Vung Tau expressway will be developed at an estimated cost of VND14.7 trillion; the 47km road will have four lanes, connecting Bien Hoa city in Dong Nai province and Phu My in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province with a designed speed of 100 kilometers per hour.
The Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway will be over 57km, running Ben Luc and Can Giuoc districts in Long An province; HCM City's Binh Chanh, Nha Be and Can Gio districts; and Nhon Trach and Long Thanh districts in Dong Nai province. The project requires investments of more than VND31.3 trillion ($1.6 billion). Of the total, US$636 million will come from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), US$635 million from the Japanese government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). It is scheduled to be finished in 2019. When finished, the expressway will form part of the national highway running from the north to the south of the country. It is hoped that the new expressway will reduce traffic congestion on National Highway 1 in HCMC and National Highway 51 in Dong Nai.
Dau Giay-Lien Khuong expressway will be built in the years to come to facilitate transport from HCMC to Dong Nai and Lam Dong province. The project will comprise of three sections, namely from Dau Giay to Tan Phu, from Tan Phu to Bao Loc, and from Bao Loc to Lien Khuong as the gateway to the resort city of Dalat.
The first section of Dau Giay-Tan Phu will have four lanes, allowing for a maximum speed of 100-120kph. It is expected for completion in 2020. The road section will be developed under the Build-Operate-Transfer format, all to be financed by a contractor to be chosen. The contractor will recoup its investment capital through toll collections. The Dau Giay-Tan Phu expressway section will be built in parallel with the existing National Highway 20.
Construction on the two remaining sections will start after completion of the first section, and the whole expressway project will be completed in the 2032-2034 period.
More than 200-km expressway worth about VND36 trillion will connect Dau Giay T-junction in Dong Nai Province to Lien Khuong Airport in Lam Dong province. The project is part of the general zoning for the national expressway network until 2020.
