Farmers replace coffee trees to high-value trees

Since Tet holiday, many farmers in Trang Bom, Xuan Loc district of Dong Nai province, Chau Duc, Xuyen Moc district of Ba Ria- Vung Tau province, and Bu Gia Map district of Binh Phuoc province have chopped down thousands of hectares of coffee plants to grow banana, green-skin grapefruit and pepper trees.

 

Since Tet holiday, many farmers in Trang Bom, Xuan Loc district of Dong Nai province, Chau Duc, Xuyen Moc district of Ba Ria- Vung Tau province, and Bu Gia Map district of Binh Phuoc province have chopped down thousands of hectares of coffee plants to grow banana, green-skin grapefruit and pepper trees.

They said the prices of these trees are higher than coffee prices as the coffee prices has been down at VND 30, 000 per a kilogram.

Statistics showed that farmers in Ba Ria- Vung Tau have chopped down over 1, 000 hectares of coffee plants from 2014 until now. At present, the provinces have an estimated 6, 000 hectares of the industrial trees.

Nearly 8, 000 hectares of coffee trees were chopped down to grow pepper trees and other higher-value trees in Dong Nai and Binh Phuoc province.
