These cases were reported in Lang Son province in the north, Da Nang in the centre and Dong Nai and Ho Chi Minh City in the south.

After four months without recording a single death, Vietnam recently logged the first such deaths in the past two weeks.

The past seven days alone saw Vietnam record seven COVID-related deaths.

The number of severe cases is also increasing, with 123 cases recorded on May 1, doubling the previous day’s figure, and 137 cases reported on May 2.

Meanwhile, the number of fresh coronavirus dropped considerably to 1,202 on May 2 and 1,243 on May 1 from 1,986 on April 30.

Experts warned fresh coronavirus infections may rise following the five-day break when people return to big cities to work on May 3.
