Vietnam eyes spot at 2030 World Cup finals

The Vietnam national football team is aiming to make it through to the finals of the 2030 World Cup, according to Tran Quoc Tuan, chairman of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF).

During the ninth Congress of the VFF, Tuan noted that as well as a spot at the 2030 World Cup, the national men's football team is hoping to reach the top 10 in Asia. This is along with earning the right to compete in the third qualifying round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the Asian region, competing for the chance to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals in the process.

Furthermore, the team also hopes to make it to the quarterfinals of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup and the final round of the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.

The VFF has also requested that the men's team reach the finals of the AFF Cup in 2022, 2024, and 2026, as well as winning at least once.

With regard to Vietnam’s U23 team, the VFF has asked them to win a place in the final round and achieve a high ranking in the AFC U23 Asian Cup in 2024 and 2026. In addition, the team will also target winning gold at the SEA Games in both 2023 and 2025.

Meanwhile, the national men's futsal team is anticipated to be among the top three in Southeast Asia and qualify for the final round of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup in 2024 and 2026. Moreover, the VFF also requested that the team qualify for the 2024 FIFA Futsal World Cup finals.

For the Vietnamese national women's football team, the VFF is targeting being among the top six sides in Asia and gaining respectable results at the 2023 FIFA World Cup finals.

The team is also aiming to defend their Southeast Asian championship title and the SEA Games championship title in both 2023 and 2025.
