Local boxer wins Asian championship title for second time

She faced Japanese rival Namiki Tsukimi in the final round at the women's light flyweight 50kg category. 

Namiki is considered a tough rival of Tam as she had ever bagged a bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics. Japanese boxer dominated in the first set which was ended 10-9 in favour of Namiki.

Tam reversed the situation in the second and third sets when she easily defeated Namiki 20-18 and 30-27.

After three sets local boxer trounced Japanese rival Namiki Tsukimi 3-2 at the women's light flyweight 50kg category. 

This marks the second time Tam has defended the championship title of the Asian Elite Boxing tournament. She first won the title in 2017.

She was the only female athlete from Vietnam to advance to the final match this year.

Her teammate Nguyen Thi Huong lost to Gulsaya Yerzhan of Kazakhstan in the first round at the women's light heavyweight 81kg category.
