A leader of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Dong Nai Province yesterday said the province administration has allocated VND490 billion ($21 million) as compensation to hog breeders affected by African Swine Fever.

Statistically, more than 3,400 farms accounting for 73 percent of the total damage due to African Swine Fever in the province have received compensation.

Cash has been disbursed to most of farm owners in Bien Hoa, Trang Bom, Cam My and Nhon Trach while rate of disbursement is low in districts Long Thanh ( with nearly 37 percent), Long Khanh City ( nearly 50 percent) and Xuan Loc ( over 53 percent).

In the next time, farms which are not located in residential in affected areas but have not reported outbreaks of ASF within 30 days as well as implement Biosecurity will be allowed to re-raise.

Moreover, breeding enterprises applying good animal husbandry practices for swine in Vietnam are encouraged to re-raise.
These solutions are expected to cover the possible pork shortage in the year – end due to African Swine Fever.
